What does a great Senior Developer Advocate do?

Clover is looking for a seasoned Developer Advocate to be part of the team acting as primary support for the Clover App Market. As a Senior Developer Advocate, you'll work closely with our third-party developers to answer questions about developing for the Clover platform. You must thrive on new challenges as you'll seldom face the same problem two days in a row.

This is a people-oriented and highly visible position. It gives you the opportunity to work with a wide range of developers, from those new to the platform to industry vets.

Your primary role will be presenting technical information at developer events, working with other Clover teams to provide insight from your interaction with developers, and to advocate for developer needs. The Senior Developer Advocate role also includes producing Sample Code, Technical Notes and Technical Q&As to provide our developer community with the tools they need to build world-class applications on the Clover platform. These responsibilities require strong engineering, people and time-management skills. Secondary responsibilities include working with developers to answer their code-level questions with a user-friendly attitude.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Plan and coordinate webinars, meetups, and hackathons that highlight Clover’s APIs and SDKs

  • Use a data-driven approach to persuade internal stakeholders of what changes will improve the developer experience

  • Write demo code that showcase Clover developer tools

  • Advise developers on best practices when developing and shipping code for Clover

  • Monitor developer forums and merchant reviews

  • Represent the Clover brand externally when interacting with developers

  • Represent the developer internally when participating in roadmap planning

Basic Qualifications for Consideration:

  • BSCS/CE, or equivalent experience

  • Minimum: Three years of experience as a Developer Advocate, or equivalent industry experience in both technical and customer-facing roles

  • At least two years of Android experience

  • High comfort level analyzing others’ code

  • Experience working with Open API platforms

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Comfort with presenting technical information to a technical audience

  • Demonstrated and ongoing passion for learning, with excellent problem-solving skills

  • Self-directed and able to quickly and efficiently switch focus among multiple tasks

  • Strong working understanding of Relational Databases

Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • Experience developing & shipping high-quality code for Android or other app frameworks

  • Experience building and maintaining developer certification programs

  • A track record of using data to inform decision making

  • Experience building surveys and feedback forms designed to understand user pain points

  • Experience moderating posts on social platforms

  • Mastery of or readiness to master SQL, Elastic Kibana, and/or Snowflake
