Clover Linguists Lead and project manager

Every day, Clover hardware and software support the core payment card processing and point-of-sale needs for hundreds of thousands of merchants around the globe. We provide next-generation payment services to the world's largest payment processor, Fiserv, (USD $2.2 trillion processing volume). Behind the scenes, we operate a cloud platform providing processing, storage and business management tools for merchants, application developers, service providers and our merchants' customers. Our devices and platform form the backbone of millions of payment interactions between merchants and their customers daily.

Responsibilities

The Clover Linguists Lead will work closely with the Localization Manager and be the main point of communication among other Clover linguists, build community, provide training and information on new product features to Clover's team of external translators. They will also be the primary point of contact to assist troubleshooting the Smartling CAT tool, and escalate issues. Responsible for tracking translators’ vacation and availability as well as making suggestions for improvements in terms of translators' processes, workflow, or working tools.

You will provide localization project management support:

  • Manage incoming translation requests in Jira or Smartling translation platform, share responsibility for collecting reference materials and visual context, and assigning work to translators

  • Flag potential internationalization issues found in strings to Localization Manager and engineering team

  • Upload requests into Smartling platform, set due dates for vendors, and deliver completed extracted translations to engineering teams

  • Research and answer translators’ queries about source content to ensure accuracy (use internal resources and interface with writers, product, engineering as needed to seek clarification)

  • Monitor that expected translator's delivery dates are met, and check quality of deliveries from all translators

Conduct linguists training:

  • Assist in on-boarding new linguists by conducting training sessions on using Clover devices, apps, logging into the Clover merchant dashboard, tools and review our processes, style and terminology

  • Maintain translators wiki and training materials (how to take screenshots from device; how to report bugs; Smartling CAT tool, how to view image context, translation memory lookup)

Manage and update Clover’s multilingual terminology database:

  • You will be responsible for keeping Clover’s multilingual glossary of terms current

  • Suggest additions to multilingual glossary, partner with translators on translation of key terms and with Localization Manager and in-country contacts for feedback

  • Drive periodic audits of consistent use of terminology between product and glossary

  • Drive updates to style guides

Conduct ongoing quality assurance for Clover Help Center, Web Dashboard and Clover apps:

  • You will perform periodic scans of all Help Center, Web Dashboard and Clover hardware content for un-translated content, and report it to product, content & engineering teams

  • Coordinate ongoing linguistic QA of device apps in all languages, identify and report any layout or truncation issues, and any untranslated UI, assist in driving ongoing language quality improvements

  • Coordinate periodic language consistency checks between Help content and actual UI translations

  • Coordinate periodic language consistency checks between Web dashboard apps and Android apps

  • Take localized screenshots from device or dashboard as necessary, for visual reference, or for use on Help Center or marketing sites

  • Take localized screenshots and upload to App Market descriptions

  • Ensure any changes in UI are updated in Smartling translation memories as well

The Clover Linguists Lead will also have a focus on Spanish (for US & Argentina) or Dutch (for Netherlands, potentially Belgium) with responsibilities including: 

  • Ongoing translation, review and linguistic QA of Spanish for Argentina, or Dutch for Netherlands across all areas of product (apps UI and help) including language quality and consistency improvements.

  • Oversee quality of Spanish for US translation effort

Education/Experience

  • Minimum 4 years prior translation, editing, proofreading, linguistic QA, project management experience, 5+ years preferred, in relevant fields.

  • Relevant university degree, certifications, and professional experience. Familiarity or past experience in payments, banking, finance, POS systems, merchant apps a plus.

  • Past experience in software localization/translation

  • Terminology management and project management.

  • Native fluency in target language, knowledge of additional languages a plus.

Required Skills

  • Translation tools (CAT tools) such as SDL Trados, XTM, Idiom, Lilt, Smartling

  • Google shared docs and spreadsheets

  • Annotating screenshots

  • Working with PDFs

  • Knowing how to handle text strings, identify text from strings ID's in xml, javascript, .properties, json file formats; knowing how to work with variables/placeholders in text strings

  • Familiarity with JIRA or other bug tracking system

  • Familiarity with software release cycles and Agile development

  • Attention to detail, flexible mindset, independent learner

  • Work with multiple product teams around the globe to deliver overall language quality and consistency while maintaining the Clover user experience 

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally 10% of the time
